To find out about the life of Jane Goodall

Last week you wrote a biography about David Attenborough. Following on from this you are going to find out about Jane Goodall who is an English Primatologist famous for her studies of chimpanzees.

Look at the videos and interview about her and then answer the questions.

https://www.natgeokids.com/uk/discover/animals/general-animals/jane-goodall-interview/

What do you think would have been the best thing about Jane’s time studying the chimpanzees?

What do you think would have been the most difficult part of doing her research in Tanzania?

Would you like to have been Jane Goodall and had the experience she did? Why / Why not?

If you could be like David Attenborough or Jane Goodall where would you like to travel to? Explain why.

What animal or living creature would you like to watch and study? Why?

Find out about a living creature of your choice and write a paragraph about it. Include :-

  • physical features
  • where it lives
  • what habitat it has
  • what it eats
  • whether it has any predators
  • any other relevant information

You could draw a labelled picture of your creature or imagine you are David Attenborough and make a short video introducing your creature to others.

History

This week you need to finish off your work about rationing during the war. I have included the questions and information again to help you.

Why did the Government need to ration food in the U.K.?

What food was rationed?

How much did an adult and child get each week?

What was a ration book and why were there different colours?

What other things were rationed?

What were people encouraged to do to help with the shortage of food and clothing?

How long did rationing last?

Please watch the following video clip using the link. BBC Teach KS2 – Rationing in the U.K.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/history-ks2-rationing-in-the-uk/zbgby9q

When you have completed it look at the video about the” Dig For Victory” campaign which was made at the time.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35NpLveVZDg

These are some of the posters printed at the time that were used to encourage people to grow their own fruit and vegetables: Dig for victory

Now have a go at designing your own poster.

Music/Singing Assemblies

Please see below message from our music teacher, Mrs Lawrence:

Hi everyone,

Here are a couple of songs for this week: ‘Into the Unknown’ and ‘High Hopes’. You may well be familiar with one or both of them, in their original versions!

I would like to introduce you to them, as sung by Acapop, a professional kids’ pop choir. Their name comes from the words ‘a cappella’ an Italian music term which has come to mean ‘unaccompanied’ – music that is just sung, rather than played by instruments. (It’s original translation means sung ‘in the style of chapel or church music’.) All the percussive sounds and all the background harmonies in these tracks are made by voices alone. No instruments.

What different sounds can you make with your voices? Can any of you have a go at beat boxing? Can you pick out any of the harmonies in the songs?

Here are the original Acapop videos, where you can see the children perform,  and the videos with lyrics:

Now that many of you are returning to school, I am looking forward to seeing a few more of you in the coming weeks, even though it will only be from a distance.

Best wishes,

Mrs Lawrence
