Welcome to Year 3

Hello year 3! I hope you are all well – I will get to see a lot of you in school this week which is exciting. Thank you for those projects that have been sent to me and again, a big thank you to everyone who has sent me the STEM pictures. It’s been great to see the science work you’ve been doing at home.

If you have any work or projects you have completed, please send them over to me (ndavis@littleheath.herts.sch.uk). I would love to see them!

English presentation The Romans in Britain– Once you have finished your animal/dinosaur presentation you will be starting a new presentation/project. You are free to write about what we have already learnt as well as research more about the Roman invasion of Britain. Please start this project this week. It is up to you how you present your findings - you can choose a PowerPoint/Prezi/non-chronological report/poster/leaflet/fact file etc. to show your findings. The writing should be in your own words. The presentation could cover:

  • Who were the Romans? How big was their empire?
  • When and why did they invade Britain?
  • How long were they here?
  • How did they change our way of life?
  • Roman artefacts
  • Hadrian’s wall
  • The Roman army/soldiers
  • The Roman way of life
  • Boudicca’s revolt.

This is really up to you; explore as much as you would like to and show your findings. If you need any help or guidance feel free to email me.

Some useful links (remember to take Wikipedia with a pinch of salt as I was briefly the President of the World according to Wikipedia).

PE – Joe Wicks is hosting a free workout aimed at children LIVE on his YouTube channel. With the schools closed and with us all spending more time at home, it's more important than ever that we keep moving and stay healthy and positive. Exercise is an amazing tool to help us feel happier, more energised, and more optimistic. The workouts will be fun and suitable for all ages and even adults can get involved. You don't need any equipment, just tune in to his YouTube channel at 9am each morning for a 30-minute, fun workout.

Sign language – Learn BSL! I found this link and thought that you may want to learn some sign language while you are off of school - what an excellent opportunity. I believe they are streaming lessons every day. I have attached the link for lesson 1. If you enjoy it, you can explore their channel and find more lessons to learn more! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rR2Zb7TbiOA&feature=youtu.be&fbclid=IwAR3Hozewf2mllUAfQQ9tm3wT8QC3_T-JjdGQWjZ04u_Pz2WsQdYvwybiDUA

Music/Singing Assemblies

Please see this week's message from our music teacher, Mrs Lawrence:

Hi everyone,

I hope you're all well and happy!

This week I have some dancing for you to do. When singers perform, whether that is in pop music or musical theatre (or many other genres of music), they very often have to dance too. Here are three short dance tutorials from Disney. Each section of choreography* is taken from one of their Broadway musicals and taught by cast members. I'd like you to choose one to learn.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PA_t0pSYJc Arabian Nights (Aladdin)

*Do you remember the word 'choreography'? its just a fancy word for dance moves. Someone who makes up dance moves is called a 'choreographer'.

I’d also like to introduce you to Oti Mabuse’s dance classes. She and her husband are both professional dancers and her specialism is ballroom dancing. However, she has made lots of videos for kids, teaching routines to pop and musical theatre songs. Here is a fun and simple routine to a song called ‘Believe’, by Cher. If you like it, do check out her other dance classes. Perhaps that might be a fun thing to do over the summer holidays.

If you enjoy dancing, maybe you could take another song you like and make up some dance moves to go with it. Perhaps you would like to watch one of the musicals the songs are from. I watched the new version of 'Aladdin' recently, with my children. I love Princess Jasmine's new song 'Speechless'.

I hope you all have a fun week!

Best wishes,

Mrs Lawrence
