Welcome to Year 3

Hello year 3! I hope you are all well – it was lovely to see all of you that came to the zoom meeting. Thank you for those projects I have received and a big thank you to everyone who has sent me the STEM pictures. It’s been great to see the science work you’ve been doing at home.

If you have any work or projects you have completed, please send them over to me (ndavis@littleheath.herts.sch.uk). I would love to see them!

NEW English presentation The Romans in Britain– Once you have finished your animal/dinosaur presentation you will be starting a new presentation/project. You are free to write about what we have already learnt as well as research more about the Roman invasion of Britain. Please start this project this week. It is up to you how you present your findings - you can choose a PowerPoint/Prezi/non-chronological report/poster/leaflet/fact file etc. to show your findings. The writing should be in your own words. The presentation could cover:

  • Who were the Romans? How big was their empire?
  • When and why did they invade Britain?
  • How long were they here?
  • How did they change our way of life?
  • Roman artefacts
  • Hadrian’s wall
  • The Roman army/soldiers
  • The Roman way of life
  • Boudicca’s revolt.

This is really up to you; explore as much as you would like to and show your findings. If you need any help or guidance feel free to email me.

Some useful links (remember to take Wikipedia with a pinch of salt as I was briefly the President of the World according to Wikipedia).

With the schools closed and with us all spending more time at home, it's more important than ever that we keep moving and stay healthy and positive. Exercise is an amazing tool to help us feel happier, more energised, and more optimistic. The workouts will be fun and suitable for all ages and even adults can get involved. You don't need any equipment, just tune in to his YouTube channel at 9am each morning for a 30-minute, fun workout.

I believe they are streaming lessons every day. I have attached the link for lesson 1. Music/Singing Assemblies

Please see this week's message from our music teacher, Mrs Lawrence:

Hi everyone,

I hope you’ve enjoyed the sunshine this week - it’s been incredibly hot, hasn’t it! For those of you who remember Mr Spider, he’s been sunbathing in my garden and now has a beautiful suntan!

We have two songs for this week. If you have time to learn one, please choose whichever you prefer.

Firstly, there is ‘Stand By Me’. You will notice on the lyric video that there are simple chords. Some of you will know that chords are groups of notes which usually make up the accompaniment to a song. They can be played by several different instruments together, like you might hear in a band, or by one instrument, such as a piano or guitar.

If you already know how to play chords on a musical instrument, perhaps you could play along to the song. If you have access to an iPad with the app GarageBand, perhaps you could have a go at playing along with the chords on a virtual guitar or keyboard. I’ve included an instruction sheet, if you’re not sure how to use GarageBand. It also has the lyric sheet with chords.

Stand By Me Garageband

If you have a musical instrument, real or virtual, at home, maybe you could make up a chord pattern yourself. Have a listen to the sound of the chords.  What sounds good to you?

Secondly, here is one of my favourite songs, the classic ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’. It is from the musical film ‘The Wizard of Oz’ and was originally sung by Judy Garland.

If you are singing this, can you hear where Judy breathes in the song? Can you have a go at singing through each line without breathing until the end? If you need to take an extra breath, that’s just fine. See if you can decide where to breathe and stick to those places. Can you imagine each line is like a rainbow and sing through to the end of it?

Have fun with your singing!

Best wishes,

Mrs Lawrence
